What happened to Tesla’s free energy patents?

Were they some of the patents confiscated by the feds when he died? Or are they still floating around? And why hasn’t anyone reinvented them if so?

Chosen Answer:

I am not familiar with Tesla’s called free energy, although it is possible, as a fact; solar, wind and geothermal are considered free energy.
What I believe could happened is that Edison became an Icon in America and the rest of the world and so powerfull as to be protected by the government. Remember most of Edison achievements were due to Tesla’s ideas and some completely of both, ideas and work never paid neither recognized by Edison.
